Bus drivers log more hours behind the wheel than your average driver, meaning their exposure to dangerous driving scenarios is significantly higher. And because of their precious cargo, the stakes are much greater. During this workshop, we’ll address specific actions drivers can take to eliminate risk and reduce their chance of a crash. We’ll discuss how defensive driving principles can be applied in some of the riskiest driving scenarios, including intersections, backing, and railroad crossings. Additional discussion will focus on danger zones surrounding the bus. This module will help drivers ensure passenger safety, both before they board and after they leave the bus, by discussing how to identify and check danger zones; reasons children enter them; and suggestions for instructions to provide students.
