Course Information
School Bus Driver Workshop: Creating a Safe Student Environment

As the bus driver, you’re seen as an authority figure with the ability to influence the students you transport. There’s a lot of trust placed in your ability to properly handle situations that arise on the bus. During this course, we’ll give you the tools to create a safe, caring and structured environment that sets the stage for your student’s school day.

Course topics will include:
• Creating Safe Bus Stops: review unsafe bus stop scenarios and learn specific actions you can take in these situations
• Successful Student Management – topics will include building student-driver rapport, establishing bus rules, student discipline guidelines, incident reports, and how to manage a crisis situation
• Addressing Extreme Student Behavior – receive guidance on handling extreme cases such as physical altercations, sexual assault, and violence directed toward you (the driver)
• Sleeping Kids – learn proper end-of-route protocols and how to use the child-check-mate system
