Course will be taught by Roco Rescue and hosted by the NDSC.
ANSI Z359 and OSHA 1926.502(d)(20) require employers to provide the prompt rescue of employees in the event of a fall, or assure that employees are able to perform self-rescue.
Suspended Worker Rescue is designed for safety and simplicity while minimizing exposure to the rescuer. This 20-hour course will train workers for safe and effective “self-rescue” when possible and prepare them for "assisted rescue" when required.
This course will take place on the NDSC’s training tower and includes hands-on techniques for rescuing a co-worker who is suspended from a personal fall arrest system (PFAS). The 26-foot prop allows students to practice multiple scenarios in a realistic environment, creating a memorable training experience and increased retention rates.
Team rescue operations will be presented in order to prevent or minimize suspension trauma hazards for fallen workers. Special emphasis will be placed on:
• self-rescue,
• assisted rescue,
• line transfers,
• descent control systems,
• lowering techniques,
• haul systems,
• and the hazards of suspension trauma.
Safe, simple techniques will be used along with the latest and most effective equipment. Pros and cons of the various systems will be thoroughly covered.
Required Equipment and Suggested Attire
CDC guidelines will be followed and masks provided for times when physical distancing is not possible. Students should wear comfortable work clothing, including long pants or a jumpsuit, and supportive footwear. A thermos or cooler for breaks is also recommended.
