The Defensive Driving Course delivers the highest level of research-driven content, defensive driving strategies, hazard recognition and learner retention exercises. The multimedia presentation includes a full library of videos and interactive scenarios depicting today’s most risky driving behaviors, road situations, traffic incidents and more.
This course will help influence drivers to make positive choices to improve driving behaviors and attitudes and encourage respectful and lawful decisions to avoid collisions and decrease traffic violations. It provides them with the knowledge and collision prevention techniques that focus on behavior, judgment, decision making and consequences.
Course objectives include the ability to:
• Understand the consequences of distracted, fatigued and impaired driving
• Recognize the habits of defensive driving
• Better understand vehicle technology and safety features
• Identify personal driving behaviors and risk-taking tendencies
• Improve hazard identification and assessing risks
• Develop a personal plan for making effective driving choices
Participants learn how to recognize both potential and immediate driving hazards and how to avoid traffic violations and collisions in a variety of driving conditions. They will also develop a personal plan for making safe and responsible driving decisions.

The new DDC 10th Edition includes 6 and 8 hour course options:
DDC – 6: The 6-hour course provides the primary knowledge and techniques for defensive driving. Hazard recognition scenarios and applying the skills for dealing with immediate and potential dangerous driving situations are the key focus of the course.
DDC – 8: The 8-hour course provides the highest level of defensive driving knowledge and skills, the benefits of being a safe and responsible driver, and the techniques for avoiding high-risk driving behaviors. Participants evaluate their own driving behaviors and develop a personal plan for change. The 8-hour course integrates more than 60 minutes of video, animated graphics and illustrations. Virtually experience and evaluate risky driving situations and hazard scenarios that will help reinforce the importance of safe and responsible driving.

Teach Your Own Employees
Certified DDC instructors have the flexibility to teach the course in 8-hour, 6-hour or 4-hours. The National Safety Council has made it easy to become a certified instructor. Through the new eLearning Instructor Certification Program, you can schedule training at your convenience. The course combines best practice instructor facilitation and training methods for teaching defensive driving, instructions on how to teach the course along with scenario-based training showing actual instructor-student interactions. Cancellation Policy:If you are unable to attend a training session, you must cancel at least three business days prior to the course for a full refund. Late or un-cancelled registrations are non-refundable. NDSC reserves the right to cancel any class that does not meet the minimum attendance requirements.
